Happy New Year to All!


We will be taking a bit of a rest for the month of January and will reopen on weekends with the first weekend in February on the 4th and 5th from 12-5pm so stop in with friends for a taste and a toast for the new year. The weekend of the 10th and 11th of February we will be hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner in the evening at 6:30pm themed Racketeers on Route 66. Trivia Nights will start the following Saturday evening on the 18th at 7pm. If you are in the area during January and want to check about stopping in to pick up some wine do give a call to check if we are around and we'll be happy to help you since we will still be working during the month.

THANKS TO ALL for a great 2011 season !!

Thanks to everyone for coming out this year to attend and support our concerts on Saturdays and our festivals. We are always awed by the fun and good spirits that are evident in the people that visit us. We truly appreciate those that would call themselves "regulars" and those who have just discovered the vineyard, everyone adds to the fun.  All of our friends, neighbors and visitors make Mackinaw a wonderful place to be and we've already working on a great season for 2012. We hope you visit this fall and winter too for the holiday show, mystery dinners, trivia nights or just to visit and raise a glass-many thanks from the Paul, Diane and our family.


Chocolate and Wine Tasting- Chocolate and Wine are paired in this fun sensory experience. Taste and swirl your way through the perfect marriage of flavors and the nuances that wine and chocolate bring to your senses.  Chocolates by  our local Chocolatier  are enjoyed with a flight sampling of six wines.  To schedule a chocolate and wine tasting during business hours is $15 per person, with a minimum of 10 guests or $150. Diabetic chocolates are available upon request.  Please schedule a minimum of two weeks in advance.

 

New store in Mackinaw -The Traffik Jam! Stop in to say Hello to one of our new businesses in Mackinaw.

This store features gift and one of a kind items and collectibles displayed by various vendors in booths with gift items for adults and children, antiques, collectibles and art. A friend of ours photographer Larry Leuellen has his photographs displayed there displaying many beautiful views of the vineyard throughout the seasons.   Located at 101 South Orchard in Mackinaw.  On Facebook under "The Trafik Jam".  Business phone 354-1050

ON You Tube our TV Commericial- WMBD 31 is now airing our new commericials for the Vineyard. You can see our "funny" one on You Tube look for- Mackinaw Valley Vineyard Commericial, our terrific and talented friend Richard Lee stars as our spokesperson.

 

Tour and Tastings: We are currently booking Tours and Wine Tastings for groups. Groups tour our workroom located under our tasting room to learn about winemaking and also have a short tour of the vineyard (weather permitting). After the Tour we do a formal tasting of six different wines and answer questions with guests about winemaking and Illinois wines.  We schedule groups two weeks in advance and a Tour and Tasting usually takes about one hour depending on how many questions are asked.  During e summer season on Saturdays we only schedule Tour and Tastings until 1pm.  Please call two weeks in advance to book a tour and wine tasting, the fee is $5 per person with a minimum of  10 people or if less then 10 guests $50 flat fee.

 

 

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater

We will be hosting Murder Mystery Dinners again in 2012, the first ones will be scheduled on February 10th and 11th, the Perfect Valentines Date!!

Presented by Spirits of Bloomington and Timeless Presentations Entertainment

Johnny and Roxie stumble into Mr. Joey’s Lounge, the local speakeasy, bringing mayhem, music and murder!! Who is the dead guy anyway?  Help solve the mystery. Who knew murder could be so entertaining. This zany prohibition interactive dinner murder mystery production is sure to be another good time at the vineyard.

 

Cost is $45 per person for the interactive murder mystery drama and a buffet dinner served by The Catering Company. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Call Diane at 309-645-5054 to reserve a spot or if you have questions you can also email - mackinawwinery03@gmail.com seating is limited to 52 people.

*Note-Payment due when making reservations, we accept credit cards, cash and checks.  Not included in fee are wine, beer and soft drinks.  Complimentary wine tasting will be available from 5:45 to 6:15pm.

Weddings and Receptions

The Vineyard has become a popular Wedding and Reception place and our Spring, Summer and Fall dates fill up fast.We offer both Weddings and Receptions at the Vineyard. Wedding and Reception prices are based on the the number of guests and amount of time you wish to have.  The new pavilion facility can seat up to 300 guests for a reception.  Our Facebook page Mackinaw Winery has a number of wedding and reception pictures on it.

Mackinaw Dining and Carryout!

We often have people that want to know where to eat in Mackinaw or where to pick up good carryout to bring with them to the vineyard.

Some of our favorites are…

IGA- 309-359-5211, Our newly reopened and beautiful IGA store has a terrific deli with deli sandwiches and carryout chicken dinners. Everything is made fresh daily, hours- 6am-9pm daily.

The Tearoom at the Depot-309-359-4TEA, this beautiful tearoom setting in the historic Mackinaw Depot is not to be missed when  visiting our town. The food is excellent as is the service, there is abundant shopping for gifts and fashion before and after dining.   

J&J Drive-in 309-359-3588,  This is a nice stop for burgers, fries, hot sandwiches and ice cream treats in town.

Recipes    

                

Eric’s Red Wine Chili Recipe

 

One pound of Ground Beef

One Chili seasoning packet

One large can Mild Chili Beans

One large can stewed tomatoes

One cup of Eric’s Red Wine

*Pour yourself a glass at this point too and also a glass for any kitchen

helpers that are underfoot.

One half chopped sweet onion.

One tablespoon brown sugar

 

Brown ground beef, add beans, tomatoes, onion, brown sugar, seasoning packet and cup of Eric’s red wine. Mix all ingredients together and simmer for half hour or more until desired consistency. Add salt and pepper to taste.

 

*Sprinkle with your favorite cheese, One of ours is with chili is Ropp Jersey Sharp Cheddar.

 

 Recipe for Grape Cobbler

This recipe is from one of our U-Pick customers who was kind enough to share it with everyone. From Dorie's neighbor

 

8 cups mashed grapes

 

1/2 cup flour  ]

3 T. tapioca   ]       mix together and add to grapes

3/4 cup sugar ]

 

layer grape mixture in bottom of 9X13 pan (we sprayed pan first)

 

topping

     1 stick butter    

     1 cup oatmeal

     1 cup brown sugar

     1/2 cup flour

               mix together and then put topping mixture over grape layer

 

                                   bake @ 350 degrees    -     40 minutes
